The Ethic/Law Review Continuing Education Requirement:

Beginning July 1, 2008, an amendment to the existing continuing education rules will become effective. Among the many changes to the continuing education rule is a requirement that all respiratory care professionals and limited permit complete one (1) contact hour of continuing education in Respiratory Care law or professional ethics. The rule states, in part:

OAC rule 4761-9-02 states, in part:

(C) Continuing education earned for license or limited permit renewal must minimally include the following content requirements:

(1) An applicant for license renewal shall complete twenty contact hours of relevant RCCE every two years, beginning with the license renewal date and ending on the license expiration date established under division (D) of rule 4761-7-01 of the Administrative Code, unless a waiver is granted under division (G) of this rule. RCCE earned for license renewal must include the following content requirement:

(a) One contact hour of RCCE on Ohio respiratory care law or professional ethics as set forth in rule 4761-9-08 of the Administrative Code; and ***

(2) An applicant for renewal of a limited permit issued under division (A)(1)(c) of rule 4761-6-01 of the Administrative Code, shall complete ten contact hours of relevant RCCE every year, beginning with the limited permit renewal date and ending on the limited permit expiration date established under division (E) of rule 4761-7-01 of the Administrative Code, unless a waiver is granted under division (G)(2) of this rule. RCCE earned for license renewal must include the following content requirement:

(a) One contact hour of RCCE on Ohio respiratory care law or professional ethics as set forth in rule 4761-9-08 of the Administrative Code; and

Licensees and eligible Limited Permit holders seeking to renew their Ohio license are required to provide evidence to the Ohio Respiratory Care Board that they have completed at least one contact hour of professional education from a Board-approved provider on Respiratory Care law or professional ethics.

The appropriate evidence of completion of this requirement is a certificate of completion provided by the sponsor of the program. The certificate should clearly indicate that the program is approved by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board and includes the name of the participant, date of completion, approved contact hours, and signature of the provider.

Respiratory Care Providers may benefit from visiting the Ohio Respiratory Care Board’s website and completing any of the home study courses provided by the Board or other approved providers. The Ohio Respiratory Care Board will provide FREE one (1) contact hour continuing education modules on Respiratory Care law through QUIA online. The first course offering is “Respiratory Care Continuing Education Requirements.” Follow the instructions to setup an online QUIA account an access the first Jurisprudence Module.

Make sure that you sign the score sheet and record the date of completion on it. Please note that the score sheet does not look like a traditional certificate of completion.
